Be Kind – Crate Paper

September 14, 2018

Today I am sharing a layout featuring a technique I love to do: Mixed Media!  I almost always include some kind of paint on a layout,  and for this page, I got out my Vicki Boutin Mixed Media goodies!

I started out by using Vicki Boutin Gesso and covered my entire 12×12 white cardstock.  Once that was dry I scraped Vicki Boutin paint in the Daquiri Ice color in the center of the page.  Since I was going to mix pinks and teals I let the teal dry completely and then mixed cotton candy with a bit of water and added it to the page with the package technique.  I made sure to let some of the puddles drip down the page, again I let the background dry and for the last layer I added Vicki Boutin Iridescent Glaze through a stencil.

I was ready to embellish the background now using the gorgeous Willow Lane Collection by Maggie Holmes and Crate Paper.  I chose die cuts with coordinating colors to the mixed media and followed the design the paint and drips had made.  The pink paint had dripped and puddled at the bottom of the page, so I just made a point of embellishing it with a cute chipboard bow, puffy heart, and a clear sticker!

I decided to expand on the black details in the be kind tag and added two foam banners on the page, one on the bunny die cut and another under my photo.  The black creates a visual triangle and incorporates the clear sticker in the bottom cluster.  In my opinion, it keeps the page from looking too “precious” with the soft paint colors!

I added sparkly gold hearts in three areas on the page; I love that they bring in some glitter and shine and add a fun element to the layout!  If you have never tried mixed media on a layout, I encourage you to give it a try!  Begin by choosing coordinating colors for your embellishments.  It keeps a page calmer in feel and a cohesive look!

Present & Wonder – Pinkfresh Studio

August 20, 2018

So happy to share two new layouts using Simple & Sweet by Pinkfresh Studio with you today! It is amazing to me how beautifully this collection goes with so many types of photos!  I of course love to make pages about my girl and I chose photos from when she was little, simple and sweet!

My first layout is 8.5×11, I started with a white background and added puddles of paint and splatters.  To ground my photo I added a strip of paper from the Happy Life paper.

I wanted a whimsical feel for this page, I fussy cut a big circle from the Splendid paper to tuck under my photo.  It then gave me the perfect spot to continue scattering embellishments up the page!  I used chipboard, puffy stickers, epoxy stickers and a gorgeous gold foiled heart!

The bottom of the layout is super simple, I added one of the divine chipboard butterflies (LOVE them) an epoxy circle and another gold foil heart.

My 2nd layout features one of my favorite papers from Simple & Sweet – the Fresh Air paper.  There are so many wonderful sentiments included in these strips!

I cut up the entire paper and decided on a color block for my layout.  I mixed my Pinkresh Studio Liquid Watercolors with white paint and using a palette knife I created strips of color across the background.  Once the paint was dry I added a few gold splatters!

After I attached the paper strips I got busy embellishing!  I kept colored embellishments with the coordinating colored paper strips.  To me this creates a full look without being too chaotic!  I finished off the layout with a gold foil XO and stitched through it.

Summer Watercolor Leaves – Hip Kit Club

August 8, 2018

The July 2018 Hip Kit Color Kit has the new Pinkfresh Studio Liquid Watercolors and they are amazing!

I started out by adding gesso to white cardstock, I also added some texture paste through a circle stencil. I then mixed Sunshine and Sky Blue together to make a pretty green and used packaging to smush it onto the page, I added plenty of splashes and let the colors run together.  There was no need to keep it tidy since I knew I would be cutting it up!

Once my paper was dry I used by Big Kick and die cut some leaves in different shapes and sizes.  I used a stylus to add some lines and texture to the leaves.  For the background to my layout I added some Mango Tango Shimmerz (Oct 2017 Color Kit) with packaging.

Time to put my layout together!  I cut a large tag from a card in the July 2018 Project Life kit and stacked up some other cards as well.  I arranged and glued the leaves and then embellished the area with the Simple Stories chipboard found in the July 2018 Embellishment kit.

Shaker Heart – Hip Kit Club

August 1, 2018

My assignment this week was to add a shaker pocket onto a layout!  So many cute possibilities with the June 2018 Hip Kits!  I decided to make a simple heart shaker and cut a heart outline and a full heart on my silhouette.  I added a piece of acetate to the heart outline back and think strips of foam to raise it up.  I added sequins inside the heart outline back and then glued the full heart to that!  Instant shaker pocket!

Next I added paints from the June 2018 Color kit to a white background.  I love how shimmery the pale pink and peach are!

I adore the Illustrated Faith bird paper and decided to feature it with a grid design beneath my shaker and photo.  A few Pinkfresh Studio embellishments finished off the page!

Flamingo Envy

July 26, 2018

Paige offered a super cute Flamingo Pool Floatie cut file for free in her Happy Scrappy Group and I just had to use it!  The group is free to join and has loads of inspiration for using Paige Evans cut files and collections!

I had to make my flamingo pink and went straight for Oh My Heart!  I backed the flamingo in two of the pink papers and left the middle ring open for my journal card since I do not have a flamingo floatie!  I added lots of pink flowers and attached the sunglasses to my journal card to make it easy to pull it in and out.

I didn’t want the flamingo to be stranded so I painted her a pool and some splashes!!  It was so fun to make this page!

Heart Eyes – Crate Paper

July 19, 2018

I traveled to Palm Desert, CA in April to visit my girlfriend.  I took a lot of photos of her gorgeous desert garden.  I love cacti and succulents so it was right up my alley.   It is funny to me how many of my travel photos end up being of plants, flowers, trees, and sunsets!  I suppose I take many plant photos at home too; I just love plant photos!!  I chose one of the photos of a pretty cactus to make a layout about.  The Wild Heart collection by Crate Paper is SO perfect for these types of photos!

I decided to string tags on some white bakers twine, I have made similarly designed layouts, but I just love the look!  Once I had made my tag decisions I used my Vicki Boutin Art Crayons and puddled some watercolor behind where each tag would go.  I used a custom mix of pinks and yellow and teal.  Once the puddles had dried, I went back in and added tiny splatter drops in the same colors.

I kept the embellishments on the tags pretty simple.  They are so beautifully designed they made a big impact just as they were!  A few stickers, some gold hearts, a paperclip and the alpha, finished the layout off perfectly!

Sweet Time – Hip Kit Club

July 18, 2018

I am happy to be sharing a layout I made for Mixed Media Monday at the Hip Kit Club!! My assignment was to use the June 2018 color kit, stitching and cut files so off I went!

I cut one of the background files by Kim Watson (June) and used it as a stencil to mist the background with the pretty blue Shimmerz spray. I then added both other Shimmerz paints for loads of sparkle and splatters!

I layered and layered all the pretty papers and embellishments from our Pinkfresh Studio goodies in the June kits! I love how my page turned out!! You might want to consider using a cut file as a stencil, it creates a unique look to your background!!

Tap Dreams

July 17, 2018

I was up at 4:30 this morning, definitely not planned but I thought I might as well make the most of it and enjoy some quiet scrap time!  My days have been busy helping Hannah with her summer school so it was nice to just sit and enjoy a coffee and get creative!

I hauled out my stash buckets and some pretty gold leaves from Flourish by Maggie Holmes.  I painted my background with Worn Lipstick Distress Ink, splattered with Gold Colorshine and then stitched the gold leaves on.

While digging around in my little bucket I found the gorgeous acetate rose from Gather, a Crate Paper tag and the word sticker from Chasing Dreams.  I first layered a floral cut file from Just Nick cut from white cardstock under the photo for softness, and then added my embellishments.  If you want to learn more about layering, be sure to check out my class called Knockout Layers at Big Picture Classes!

At the bottom of the page I layered a piece of crepe paper (hard to see in the photo) and a strip of patterned paper from Flourish to finish off the page!

Flower Walk – Pinkfresh Studio

July 13, 2018

When I was making my layout for the July Pinkfresh Studio challenge I had painted lots of circles with the paints that I had mixed up.  I didn’t use them at the time and later wondered what I could do with them!  I decided to stitch around the edges with black thread (stitching in a circle is not my strong point haha) and then stacked them up to make flowers.

I used hot glued the circles together making a bit of a puddle of glue to add dimension, I then popped a single enamel dot in the center.  For the stems I drew stripes on a white piece of cardstock with a sharpie and then cut it into strips.

For my background I simply splattered black watercolor paint all over the background.  I added a cluster of embellishments at the bottom of the page beside the photo.  The embellishments and alpha are all from The Mix #2 by Pinkfresh Studio.

Designer Spotlight – Pinkfresh Studio

July 2, 2018

Woot!!  Lucky for me, I am in the designer spotlight on the Pinkfresh Studio blog!  Love for you to check out all the details!

I made a brand new layout for my feature, totally in love with how it turned out!

I seriously needed a moment when I opened the Simple and Sweet Collection!  The colors are divine and the sentiments make me think of carefree days and pretty things!  I got out my Pinkfresh Studio Liquid Watercolors and along with some white paint, I mixed paints to match the colors in Sweet and Simple.
I added some simple pain strokes on my white background with a large brush and let them dry (the black paint is from my stash).  I decided to cut some big butterflies from the S&S papers and layered the patterned papers with white card stock butterflies and wrapped the layers up with thread.
I found the perfect sentiment on the mint chipboard piece and all that was left was to add sprinkles of enamel dots and beautiful gold hearts!

July Watercolor Challenge – Pinkfresh Studio

July 1, 2018

I am so thrilled to take part in the Pinkfresh Studio July Challenge!  The challenge this month is watercolors!  Working with the brand new Pinkfresh Studio Liquid Watercolors is such a joy, the colors are so vibrant and pretty!

Be sure to visit the Pinkfresh Studio blog and join in on the challenge!  There are prizes!! YAY!!

I gathered the watercolor bottles that are selected for the challenge and a white piece of cardstock.  I added clear gesso to my cardstock to help with the water I would be adding!  I also cut a floral wreath on my silhouette from white cardstock.

I decided to add watercolor under the wreath and leave it white.  It is a great way to have dimension and mixed media on your page!  I had not adhered the wreath, so I just lifted up the areas I wanted to paint under so I would get the colors in the right spots, the back of my cut file got a little wet but nothing it couldn’t handle.

Once I had the paint all added I found a spot for my photo and added embellishments.  The “moments” title is from The Mix #2 as are the sweet puffy hearts.  Once I started adding hearts I couldn’t stop so they ended up all around the wreath!  I kept the hearts in similar watercolor areas.

June Junque Journal – Vicki Boutin Mixed Media

June 17, 2018

I decided to take part in Vicki Boutin’s Junque Journal Summer Camp challenge.  You can find all the challenges in her Vicki Boutin Mixed Media Community on Facebook.  I had been chomping at the bit to get started, but it’s been a busy first part of June with tests for school etc.  So on Thursday I found some time to get started and then I couldn’t stop!  I thought I would share my pages and any notes about the products I used.  The post is very image heavy!!  I am using all Vicki Boutin Mixed Media Supplies.  I have added some blank tags and a sharpie marker from my stash.  I also used cut files from Just Nick and Paige Evans to decorate!

Swatch of the acrylic paints.

Another swatch of the paints and the fx glazes.

I added in extra tags I had made while playing around.  I used the VB stamps on this tag and then added glossy accents over the dots!

I had another swatch tag and had to include it!

I added a kraft envelope since I didn’t have any of the kraft inserts.
