Bright and Cheery Travelers Notebook – Freckled Fawn

November 19, 2019

I used the super cute and colourful Freckled Fawn November kit for my Traveler’s Notebook spread below!  I cut the XO tag using my Silhouette (Tag is from Silhouette) and backed it with the gorgeous teal striped paper.

I added the tag as a flip out and put my photo and story underneath.  The left side uses a digital card from Freckled Fawn and other cute bits and pieces!

Handmade Flowers – Spellbinders

November 16, 2019

I absolutely love flowers and add them anytime I can to my scrapbook and journal projects!  I was excited to receive the Flower Child Steel Contour Die from Spellbinders to make my own flowers!

I made a ton of flowers while playing around to get a feel for the die.  I decided to make a fancy flower to match the Crate Paper Snowflake collection!

I cut three layers of petals for this flower and snipped one die cut into single leaves and glued them to the center individually to form a “shorter” layer.

I also made a red felt flower. The felt cut so cleanly with no issue at all.  I can see myself making loads of felt flowers, they would be super cute on hats!

Here is a look at all the flowers I made while playing around.  The tissue paper flower (pink) is one of my favorites and so easy to make.  I folded a single sheet of tissue paper about 8 times and ran it through the die cutting machine.  It came out perfectly!

Be sure to grab the Flower Child die on sale!  It is a great tool to have in your stash!

Grateful Travelers Notebook Pages – Citrus Twist Kits

November 15, 2019

Hello!  Lorilei here today sharing two pages in my Life Crated album using the gorgeous November Life Crafted kit!  The vellum die cut pack is full of over the top gorgeous pieces and I couldn’t wait to use the soft pretty leaves in glorious fall colours on some pages!

While I was going through the vellum die cut pack I ended up with a little bundle of leaves in my hand, I thought they looked perfect together and tied that little bundle with a piece of twine!  I added some soft purple mist to my white background to accent the purple leaf.  I typed my journaling on my typewriter before adhering the background to my Life Crated Album page.  I used the grateful heart stamp for my title and added the little bundle of leaves.

On the left side of my spread, I went for more leaves! I printed a full-size photo and added leaves to the “white space” of my photo.  I used two gorgeous chipboard circles to the center of the leaf clusters.

I love the way the vellum layers together to create soft new colors in the leaves!

To finish up the pages I added some sketchy borders with a grey pen.  I used one of the journal cards to mat my small photo for extra detail!

You can find the gorgeous November Life Crafted Kit here in the Citrus Twist Kits store!  Thanks so much for joining me today!

Layout using Heritage by Maggie Holmes – Crate Paper

November 15, 2019

Hello Crate Paper friends!! Lorilei here today sharing a layout I made using the lovely Designer Destination Project Pad of Maggie Holmes Heritage collection found at Joanns!! I love how these project pads are put together; you get a lovely assortment of patterns, solid colour papers and glitter paper, plus stickers and cut-apart sheets! They have so much in them!

I was inspired by the sentiments paper for my layout. I fussy cut the sentiment I wanted “a piece of our history” for my layout and then decided to mix some paint to match the colour of that piece. I added some simple paint swipes with a dry brush and left my background to dry.

Next, I focused on my photo. I chose the solid pink paper from the project pad and two pattern papers. I also added two papers from the 6×8 Heritage Paper Pad and cut them all into layers for my photo. I love that you can see so many patterns and colours peeking out behind the focal area! It is a great way to incorporate papers without committing to lots of pattern!

I used a 3×4 card and a tag from the cut-apart sheet to add beside my photo for interest and to balance the colourful photo. This photo is one of my favourites of my grandma and my great-grandparents and great aunties and uncles! I love that the Heritage collection invites us to scrapbook important family photos!

Once I found the spot for my photo cluster and layers, I turned to the sticker sheet in the Project Pad. The flowers caught my eye, and I used Sticky Thumb foam adhesive to raise the stickers for added dimension. I fussy cut the yellow flower from the same sheet my sentiment came from. I chose a vellum floral die cut from the ephemera pack and to finish off the floral areas, I tucked in a few of the glossy puffy sticker leaves and added the glossy puffy butterfly on top!

For a few final touches, I added some sequins from my Carousel stash and some gold splatters, I decided to add a small pop of pattern at the top of my page by making a small tear and adhering floral paper underneath. I mounted my page on another sheet of white card stock for a subtle touch of dimension.

Thanks so much for joining me! I love having this photo on a scrapbook page, be sure to check out the gorgeous Heritage Project Pad at Joann.com or if you are lucky to have a store near you, you can see it in person!

Black, White and Bees Travellers Notebook – Vicki Boutin

November 7, 2019

Hello!  Vicki recently shared a page of prompts in her Mixed Media Community on Facebook, to jumpstart creativity!  I chose prompt 22 – Black, White and …. I picked bees (yellow)!  I decided to make a spread in my traveller’s notebook, a bit of a planner/art journal/diary type page that I will fill in with quotes and journaling!

I started with a white background and used the Wildflower & Honey honeycomb stencil with the Vicki Boutin brush and a yellow Art Crayon from the Warm Set in 3 different spots.

Next up, I added paint puddles with some packaging and a golden Art Crayon from the Neutrals set in the same three spots.

For some contrast, I used the honeycomb stamp from the Wildflower & Honey stamp set.  I love that the pattern is similar to the stencil but a smaller scale.

Once my background was all dry, I had fun decorating the page!  I drew myself seven blocks for journaling or adding quotes and focused my embellishments on the same three areas I added the mixed media.

Love the bees!

I will probably end up using the left side of the spread for some longer journaling.  It will be fun to wrap it around the large die cuts!

You could easily adapt this page design to a scrapbook layout.  Be sure to check out the prompts and join Vicki’s group!

Christmas Stories Album – Citrus Twist Kits

November 6, 2019

Hello!  Thank you for joining me today for my second post using the Christmas Stories Kit (2019) from Citrus Twist Kits!  Today I am sharing some fun pages I made for December using the kit.

I placed all the numbered squares from the Pink Paislee cut-apart sheet into pockets to give me an idea of “busier” days I know we have already scheduled for December.  I decided to print a few photos from last year to give me an idea of how I wanted the album to feel and how I would decorate it with the kit.

I decided that I will most likely include multiple photos onto a 4×6 print on days that have more photos.  I will add embellishments and stickers to go with the photos.  I added a little string of banners below the photo on this page and paired it with a Heidi Swapp journal card.

On the next page, I used four tags from the Pebbles cut-apart sheet and attached them to white cardstock with brads so that they swing-out.  I can include some hidden journaling or small photos under the tags!  I used the branding strip to decorate the top and bottom of the page.

These tags are so cute!!

On my next set of pages I paired a large photo with a cluster made from a Pink Paislee sticker, a pebbles cut-apart banner and a white snowflake with a tag using the gorgeous Pink Paislee paper.  I will add a 3×4 photo to this size of tag with some typed journaling.

I added an eyelet to the banner for extra detail!

Sometimes the simplest cluster of embellishments is all you need to pretty up your photo!

The more I use the Christmas Stories kit, the more I love it!  You can find it in the Citrus Twist shop!  Happy scrapping!

Fall Inspired Mixed Media Layout – Vicki Boutin

October 31, 2019

Hello friends!  Thanks so much for joining me today!  I have a fall-inspired mixed media layout today to share!  Autumn is my favourite season, and I could happily make pages and pages using autumnal colours!

I started my layout with two photos that tell an end of Autumn story for me.  I used the photos for my colour choices and went from there.  Of course, I chose the neutral art crayons as my main tool for creating colour and texture oin the background!  I added Vicki Boutin Gesso to my white background and then began adding multiple layers of Art Crayon turned into puddles of paint.  I used all three rich, warm tones in the Neutral Art Crayon set and brought in the warm rust colour from the Warm Art Crayon set.  I watered down some Vicki Boutin Gold Glaze, splattered it onto my page while the color puddles were slightly damp and let it blend in a bit.  It added just the right amount of sparkle!

While the background was drying, I cut some pretty leaves on my Silhouette for extra embellishments.  I love to add touches of white to some of my layouts, especially when I have lots of layers in mind!  The photo below shows the leaves on top of the sticker “washi” tapes from the Wildflower & Honey collection!  Love the shimmery foil these stickers have!

I used all kinds of stars from Wildflower & Honey to embellish my page.  I added the your story sticker on top of my photo to use part of the photo as my title.

I love how my page turned out!  It feels rich and warm, and the layers remind me of a pile of freshly raked leaves!  Here in Alberta, Canada, we are feeling the cold and have had a few snowfalls.  Making this layout was a great reminder to me about how we can “be” in any season, or return to a moment in time because of the power of memory keeping!

Have a great week and happy scrapping!

Hey Pumpkin Halloween Decor – Crate Paper

October 26, 2019

Hello Crate Paper friends!  Lorilei here today sharing a Halloween decor project using the super cute Hey Pumpkin collection!  I love the cute little witch included in the collection and made a project just for her!

I started with two soft cover books from the thrift store.  I gave them both a coat of gesso and let that dry and then covered the larger book with black acrylic paint and the second book got a coat of turquoise paint.  I love the pop of mint green in the Hey Pumpkin collection and used that as inspiration.  Once the books were dry, I added the “Spellin’ Book” title to the black book with the Spellbound alpha Thickers.  I used the Hocus Pocus Thickers for the turquoise book, so cute and they fit perfectly!

Next up, I created a witch hat.  I made a 3″ rosette using the candy corn paper to place between the brim and the cone of the hat.  The brim is a black circle, and the cone is also made from black paper.  The Scaredy Cat or Eeek paper work perfectly for a hat.  To decorate the hat, I made a white tissue paper rosette, punched a scalloped circle shape and adhered the witch circle with foam adhesive for lots of dimension. I made a bow from tulle and black ribbon and popped a little silver bow from my stash on top.  For a little touch of whimsy, I glued a fringy pom pom to the top of the hat!

No witch would be caught without her broom!  I made a paper tassel by cutting a 12″ by 4″ piece of the Creepy Crawly paper.  I folded it in half on the short side, used my American Crafts fringe scissors and clipped the 2″ by 12″ piece being careful to leave the top folded edge intact.  I rolled up the fringe around a black and white straw, glueing the whole way and then fluffed it up!

To add a bit more fun, I adhered the super cute bat from the Hey Pumpkin Ephemera Pack to a thin piece of white wire.  I tucked the end of the wire in between the pages of the book so he would look as though he was flying over the scene!  One last touch for the witch hat – I adhered the Oct 31 2×2 square from the Pumpkin Spice paper onto a mini clothesline clip.  I added another “flying” bat and clipped it to the hat!

This was a really fun project to put together and not difficult to do.  I could see making loads of little witch hats to give as gifts or hang from a banner with brooms in between!!  Thank you so much for joining me today!  Wishing you the spookiest of Halloween’s!!

Fall Wreath Layout – Vicki Boutin

October 24, 2019

Hello!  I am happy to share a new layout I made with you today!  Autumn is my favorite season and Wildflower & Honey made it super easy to make a pretty fall inspired layout!  I focused on using the 6×8 Wildflower & Honey Paper Pad for my project.

One of the great things about Vicki’s papers are that the paper pads are double sided!  I found a gorgeous bounty of b-sides in traditional autumn colors.  I cut the papers into squares and added them to my silhoutte mat.  I then sized leaf cut files to fit the squares and cut out a lot of leaves!  I drew out an 8″ circle on a piece of foundations paper cardstock and added splatters in co-ordinating shades.  I used a mix of Art Crayons and Art Markers to make my splatter shades.  I printed out an 8″ photo with journailing and added it to my background.  Next I simply attached the leaves, making sure to spread the colors around.

For some extra detail, I fussy cut the pink, orange butterflies from the Wildflower & Honey specialty paper and used foam dots to pop them onto the wreath.  I added some puffy gold leaves and the “Awesome” title to my photo.

This type of layout is so quick and easy to make.  If you don’t have a large photo you could tuck a smaller photo into the side of the wreath and add journaling on a tag or strips.  Thank you so much for joining me today!  Happy Fall!

Christmas Daily Album – Citrus Twist Kits

October 23, 2019

Hello!  I am excited to share the start of my December album using the Christmas Stories 2019 Kit from Citrus Twist Kits!  It was like an early Christmas opening the gorgeous kit!  I was thrilled to see the Heidi Swapp Winter Wonderland collection mixed with Pebbles, Pink Paislee, Pinkfresh Studio and the beautiful pieces by Citrus Twist Kits!

This will be my third year making an album of December memories.  I have learned a few things along the way about what my needs are in the busy month of December and making the opportunity to start early will be helpful in the process of recording those stories once December hits!  I focused on preparation to start the process.  Some of the tips may sound simple, but they are not steps I have taken other years, and I think they will be a game-changer for being prepared!

I chose a quiet afternoon and went through the entire Christmas Stories kit to familiarize myself with everything included.  I downloaded all the extra digital goodies so that I would know what my options were as well.  Next, I picked out all the pieces that needed attention to be used.  I trimmed the papers with tags, banners and cards, printed a sheet of labels and trimmed them all.  I cut some snowflakes from white cardstock on my silhouette and die cut some stars from gold glitter paper from my stash.   I cut 3 Build a Poinsetta cut files from the Christmas Stories digital set and painted them with watercolours to match the colours in the Heidi Swapp Winter Wonderland die cuts.  I found a nice dish to hold all my bits and pieces so that they would be handy to add to my album!

Next up, I decided to add photo page protectors to my album.  I chose to include 25 “days” worth of the combination of one double 3×4 insert and a full-size insert.  My thinking is that I will add paper tag inserts and extra protectors as needed for the number of photos on any given day.  Having all the inserts ready gives me a jumping-off point!  I can also collage photos in photoshop to fit in the full-size protector and include more photos that way.  Once I had all the preparation finished, I began adding some of the cards, numbers and tags to my album.  The beauty of the Life Crafted album is that I can move items around easily to fit the photos and stories.  I made a tag using the pretty red paper and used a Heidi Swapp cut apart card, doily and one of my poinsettia’s to decorate!  I love using tags to add more photos or journaling, and they make a nice textural page in the album!

I love the little banners from the Pebbles “Just for You” paper!

For even more preparation, I set up a full-size photo printing template in photoshop.  I can know just clip my photo to the template and print!  I did some test printing with a Christmas photo from 2009!  I am happy with how the album seems to flow with the page protector set up.  I can add a 3×4 photo, as well.  I love to have easy options!

In my opinion, the most fun in a December album is the embellishments!!  I haven’t adhered any of my ideas so far so that I can change things up depending on colours in photos or particular stories, but I love being able to have a “play” and see how things look together!

Thanks so much for joining me today, I hope you get your gorgeous Christmas Stories 2019 kit out and get to know it!

We R Memory Keepers Spin It Tumbler

October 16, 2019

I was thrilled to try the Spin It by We R Memory Keepers!  I have seen them on Instagram and they look so cool and fun and people get super creative with their Tumblers!  I am working with the Spin It, the We R Memory Keepers Epoxy, Gold Glitter and Hot Pink Glitter!

I was a little concerned that I would make a huge mess and that it would be complicated.  We R has some great video tutorials and I watched those to get an idea on how to approach the project. I can tell you that it was way easier than I thought it would be and with some foil baking trays, I contained any mess quite easily!  For preparation I had two, low sided foil baking trays with a piece of printer paper in each one, for each color of glitter.  I made myself a work surface with a big piece of cardboard and newspaper to catch any epoxy drips.

I washed my cup and applied an even coat of mod podge glue and sprinkled glitter.  I decided to go with a two tone look and added gold glitter to the top and hot pink to the bottom.  When the glitter had dried, I went a little extra and added rhinestones where the two glitters met.

Next up was the epoxy and spinning!  I mixed the epoxy as per the instructions and had my Spin It on low, I poured the epoxy on and then used the Spin It to start and stop the turning while I smoothed the epoxy over the cup with my gloved hand.  It really was very simple to add the epoxy!

My cup was on the Spin It for about 4 hours, turning at a slow-medium pace.  In the We R video it had recommened to puddle a bit of epoxy on a paper to be able to see how it was drying so you didn’t have to fuss with touching your cup.  Once the first coat was dry, I lightly sanded any bumpy bits and gave it a second coat.

The cup turned out amazing and it was super fun to make!  These go cups or tumblers would make great gifts!  Be sure to check out the Spin It and co-ordinating products online or at Micheals!

Fall Wreath Layout – Citrus Twist Kits

October 15, 2019

Hello!  I wanted to share a layout I made using the Citrus Twist October Scrapbook Add-On kit!  The layout uses the Truly Grateful pieces included in the kit!

I spent a lot of time fussy cutting leaves for this layout!  The entire wreath is made up of leaves cut from the Truly Grateful Paper 23.  They are actually quite easy to fussy cut.  Once I had a bowl full of leaves, I printed out an 8″ circle photo and began arranging the leaves in a wreath shape.

I added a cluster of embellishments at the bottom fo the wreath for interest!

To finish off the page I added the foil together title and a banner, I love how it fits at the bottom of the wreath and brings the whole page together!
