Brave Adventure

I LOVE Mixed Media Monday on the Hip Kit Club Blog!  The Color Kits that Kimberly puts together are always fun and colorful and the October 2017 Color Kit is no exception!  This month we received sheets of 12×12 Cold Pressed Watercolor paper and I was super excited to use it!  I used all 3 Shimmerz included in the kit as well, Mango Tango, Lapis Dance and Old Yeller.  I spritzed, painted and puddled the paints multiple times.  To get the bright bold colors I let the layers dry in between so they would intensify.  I added a bit of my Shimmerz Heidi Ho Blue to bring in the brighter blue from my photo!  Once the paper had dried completely I added some vertical machine stitching and some texture paste through a stencil.  I used the gorgeous Pinkfresh Studio Escape the Ordinary Ephemera from the Oct. 2017 Main Hip Kit and the Pinkfresh Studio Escape the Ordinary Studio Puffs from the Oct. 2017 Embellishment Kit to decorate the page!

The Pinkfresh butterflies are gorgeous with their gold wings!  I love that the ephemera goes so beautifully with a mixed media layout as well as a clean layout!

All the color!!

That Face

Today I am sharing a layout I made when I started scrapbooking.  For awhile I stuck pretty hard to the grid design in order to give myself some rules and figure things out!  I used Cute Girl by Crate Paper for this page.  I adore Cute Girl and found myself choosing photos from when Hannah was little.  Her being little sometimes feels like just yesterday and sometimes it feels so long ago!!

Sunshine

My Grandma always use to sing the “You Are My Sunshine” song to me!  I love that the little paper clip banner from Turn the Page by Paige Taylor Evans & Pink Paislee has that sentiment on it!  There is also the word Sunshine in the Take Me Away Thickers, so my page was set!  I spritzed through a sunbeam stencil with Shimmerz Carribean Sunset and Sunset Strip sprays.  I then added messy stitching through each of the painted rays and sprinkled more paint dots.  To make the sunshine thicker title pop I painted it with gold paint and added some gold glitter.  Fussy cut butterflies from Turn the Page were the perfect embellishment!  I used one of my favorite photos of Hannah and I when she was a baby!

Painted title.

Pretty butterflies!

Stand Tall Darling

Flamingo’s are everywhere these days in scrap products!  I thought it would be fun to try a layout featuring one!  I made a cut file of a flamingo and the large title in photoshop to cut on my silhouette, then painted all the cutouts using my Prima Tropical Confections and my cheapy watercolor palette.  On the background I used some clear gesso and then scraped Martha Stewart paint and added some Shimmerz Well Blue Me Down splatters!  To embellish I fussy cut flowers from a Dear Lizzy paper I got in the July Hip Kit!  They were the perfect addition.  I finished the title with Thickers called Charming.

So fun to make this page!  Love how it turned out!

Stitching Layout

My daughter took up stitching in June of this year.  Gram came to visit in July and caught the stitching bug from Hannah!  They stitched up a storm during the visit!  Awhile ago I talked Hannah into stitching a title for me for a layout.  I ended up painting in the bottom of the title so it would “pop” more!  I used the gorgeous chipboard and die cuts from Take Me Away by Paige Evans & Pink Paislee.

I had trouble for the longest time figuring out how to put it all together.  Finally I got the idea to hang the stitching bits from the title with embroidery thread!  I topped it off with a coral suede bow, also from Take Me Away!

Love You Bunches Layout

I made this layout earlier in the week, the week went by so fast I thought I better get it posted!!  I used some Sizzix dies and cut 6×6 Oh My Heart by Paige Evans/Pink Paislee papers into flowers and leaves. After building the flowers I added a bit of watercolor paint to them for shading.  I used the leftover cutout words from my Love Your Laugh layout and stitched around them in two shades of blue thread.  I cut the r off of the your and it worked out fine! I used my sewing machine to stitch stems for the flowers and popped a favorite photo into the flower bunch!  I also used a fab cut file from The Cut Shoppe underneath 3 of the flowers for added dimension and texture.  I scattered the left over holes from the flower cuts and punched some more circles with a hole punch.  Added a pretty polka dot bow and done!

Grade 3 Layout

I busted out my Maggie Holmes/Crate Paper – Chasing Dreams stash!  I have always loved Maggie Holmes designs and Chasing Dreams is so pretty!  I fiddled around for quite a bit and then decided on a clothesline for this layout to hang all the photos and cute banners and tags!  I added a little cluster down at the bottom as I ended up with too much white space so that finished it right off!  I used an L2E scripted month stamp for the September label.
