Autumn Beauty – Crate Paper

Hello!  Happy Fall!  Autumn is one of my favorite seasons!  I love it when the temperatures get cooler and the changing colors get me every time!  Willow Lane has such warm pretty colors, it was perfect for my fall photo!

I knew for sure I wanted to die cut some leaves from the papers in Willow Lane.  I chose the pretty greens, and deep navy in the Willow paper and the tiny leaf pattern was a special bonus! I also used the Meadow and Frolic paper to die cut leaves for all the fall colors!

The Together paper is stunning!!  It seems like it was made for Autumn layouts with the gorgeous gold hand sketched florals and leaves.  I chose it for my background and love how it looks!   I chose a photo I had taken a couple of years ago at my Dad’s farm.  The horses were quite curious about what we were up to!  It was a typical Canadian chilly, rainy fall day and the colors of the trees and crop with the horses was too beautiful to miss taking a photo of!

My layout came together quite easily.  I settled on the large pink chipboard rose as my focal point and scattered my leaves in a diagonal from the rose.  To anchor the photo and scattered leaves, I found the hello tag in the buttery yellow color and one of the sweet tags from the Journaling Ephemera pack.  I added the Happy Little Moments paper from the Melody paper on top of the tag pocket.  I couldn’t believe my luck when I found the red label in the ephemera pack, and it was the perfect spot for a small title using the green alpha from the Alpha Sticker Pack, the cute little fox puffy sticker was the perfect finishing touch for the label!

Once I had the bigger items all adhered I looked through the collection again and found the florals and leaves in the Waterfall Sticker book that were perfect to tuck into the larger florals.  I adhered the leaves just at the tip so they would stay dimensional and added a pop dot to the center of the sticker flowers.  A gold chipboard heart and leaf sprig was the perfect finishing touch for the layout!!

Thank you for stopping by today!!

Be Kind – Crate Paper

Today I am sharing a layout featuring a technique I love to do: Mixed Media!  I almost always include some kind of paint on a layout,  and for this page, I got out my Vicki Boutin Mixed Media goodies!

I started out by using Vicki Boutin Gesso and covered my entire 12×12 white cardstock.  Once that was dry I scraped Vicki Boutin paint in the Daquiri Ice color in the center of the page.  Since I was going to mix pinks and teals I let the teal dry completely and then mixed cotton candy with a bit of water and added it to the page with the package technique.  I made sure to let some of the puddles drip down the page, again I let the background dry and for the last layer I added Vicki Boutin Iridescent Glaze through a stencil.

I was ready to embellish the background now using the gorgeous Willow Lane Collection by Maggie Holmes and Crate Paper.  I chose die cuts with coordinating colors to the mixed media and followed the design the paint and drips had made.  The pink paint had dripped and puddled at the bottom of the page, so I just made a point of embellishing it with a cute chipboard bow, puffy heart, and a clear sticker!

I decided to expand on the black details in the be kind tag and added two foam banners on the page, one on the bunny die cut and another under my photo.  The black creates a visual triangle and incorporates the clear sticker in the bottom cluster.  In my opinion, it keeps the page from looking too “precious” with the soft paint colors!

I added sparkly gold hearts in three areas on the page; I love that they bring in some glitter and shine and add a fun element to the layout!  If you have never tried mixed media on a layout, I encourage you to give it a try!  Begin by choosing coordinating colors for your embellishments.  It keeps a page calmer in feel and a cohesive look!

Always – Crate Paper

I have a special affinity for the chipboard sheets in the Crate Paper collections and the Willow Lane Chipboard by Maggie Holmes is spectacular!  I chose the large Always title to be the focal point of my layout, along with my cutey pie daughter!

I had fussy cut the whole Flutter paper of butterflies as soon as I had recieved the collection, they were the second item I reached for when making this layout!  I picked out the blue, teal and yellow butterflies for this layout.  I started with a 12×12 white cardstock backround and added some modeling paste and paint.  Of course I used a 4″ doily behind my photo, it is rare that I don’t use a doily on a layout!

The cute little panda chipboard piece was a last minute addition and I love her!  Panda’s and butterflies go together in my world!!  I also added two clear stickers and the blue alpha stickers to finish off my title!

Craft Club Party – Crate Paper

Inspiring your friends or family to spend time crafting, scrapbooking, making cards or getting artsy is a wonderful thing!  I have hosted numerous crafty afternoons for friends and years ago I taught painting and art journaling classes.  Some of us love to collect pretty things, tools, and supplies, so it makes it easy for us to share some of the “goods” for an afternoon of fun!  It can be intimidating to get crafty for some people and a craft club day can show your friends what they need and let them experience the pleasure of making something!

My crafty pals are going to make cards using the Maggie Holmes Boxed Cards.  The box comes with 40 cards & envelopes, and the designs are a wonderful compliment to the brand new Willow Lane Collection by Maggie Holmes.  The ready to go cards make it easy to get right to the fun part – decorating!!

I used Willow Lane to decorate for my craft club party paired with vintage linen and vintage glass baking dishes and assorted ceramic bowls to hold embellishments.  I fussy cut a whole sheet of butterflies from the Flutter paper to have ready to use!

The washi tape sits with the Let the Good Times Roll card in the stand.  I couldn’t help but think that was cute 🙂  I added twine and buttons and other bits and pieces to decorate cards.

A 12×12 paper makes the perfect placemat for the crafty setting and can be used during the party!  Part of the fun of setting up a craft party is the preparation and having the area look cute and inviting!

Everyone got their own adorable animal for the day!  The name tag items are lightly adhered so that the embellishments can be used on the craft!

It is a great idea to pre-select a few ephemera items for the cards to set at each area.  This takes some of the stress of knowing what goes together out of the crafty pals decisions!  I added the heart washi tape to the clothespins for a custom touch and to keep items together.

I encourage you to use your crafty supplies and inspire others to craft by hosting a craft club day or afternoon!!

Love You Deer – Crate Paper

I have been wanting to use the sweet deer ephemera since the first time I saw the Flourish collection by Maggie Holmes and Crate Paper.  I finally figured out a design that incorporated her!

I started out with white cardstock and added some light paint puddles to it for a soft background.  I then cut the love cut file (Felicity Jane) from white cardstock and backed the design with papers from the 6×8 Flourish Paper Pad.  I added pop dots to the paper backed Love piece and added it to the bottom centre of the background.

This gave me the perfect area to decorate with my photo and the super cute animals!  I fussy cut the bunny from a card on the Memorable paper so he could be a friend to the deer 🙂  I tucked in the peacock ephemera card in behind the deer and the bunny for a bit of a scenic background.  I covered the peacock with the deer as I just wanted the pretty scene to show!

I layered more ephemera and flowers around my photo and to balance both sides of the photo I added a butterfly from the Flourish standouts!  Love the standouts for all the detail they add!

To finish off the page I added a “celebrate the little things” sticker to tie in the top and bottom areas!  Such a sweet layout it turned out to be!

Grade 9 – Crate Paper

While I was making my Grade 3 back to school layout with the Willow Lane Collection I also made a layout for Grade 9!  I wanted a soft pretty page and used lots of pink!

The stamp set in the Willow Lane Collection is beyond gorgeous and I used a stamped floral for my focal point.  I chose paint to match the floral and used the packaging technique for a pretty background.  I also added some Heidi Swapp Gold Colorshine splatters!

For the opposite side of the photo I added a sweet tag layered with the gold heart standout and a chipboard phrase! To finish off the page I added some tears at the top and bottom and added some of the Meadow paper to tie in the pink!

Back to School Grade 3 – Crate Paper

I was so super excited when Willow Lane by Maggie Holmes and Crate Paper arrived in the mail!  The collection is so sweet, and the patterns are gorgeous!  I love all the sweet little characters, and I especially love the folk art unicorn!  I picked out the sweet panda bear and the unicorn for my back to school layout!

I started out with a white background and splattered some Heidi Swapp Gold Colorshine around the edges.  I used one of the big cards from the Melody cut apart sheet and the black envelope from the Journaling Ephemera pack to start out the grid with my 4×6 photo.

To balance out my grid design, I added the “you are loved” ephemera with a fussy cut panda prize ribbon from the Friendship paper.  I backed that cluster with a piece of the Happy Times paper so it would be the right size for the grid!  I added dimensional adhesive to the panda so she would pop up in the cluster.

To decorate the black journaling pocket I fussy cut a sweet little house from the cottage paper.  Hannah has always done homeschool, so that represents where she goes to school!  I added a strip of white cardstock for my journaling and then the adorable folk art unicorn!  The journaling card slides out of the pocket and is a great spot to add a longer story or tuck in more photos!

To add some extra interest and dimension to my layout I fussy cut butterflies from the Flutter paper.  I love that the Willow Lane collection includes the pretty lavender color!  I decided to use just the blue and lavender butterflies to accent the ribbons on the panda portrait.  The butterflies tie all the grids together and add lots of movement to the page.  I enhanced the butterfly spots with little gold puffy hearts from the Flourish collection to finish it off!

It feels like just yesterday that I was taking these photos!  My girl is starting Grade 10 this fall.  Time flies and I love being able to make these memories come alive again with the beautiful designs that Maggie Holmes and Crate Paper create!

Tap Dreams

I was up at 4:30 this morning, definitely not planned but I thought I might as well make the most of it and enjoy some quiet scrap time!  My days have been busy helping Hannah with her summer school so it was nice to just sit and enjoy a coffee and get creative!

I hauled out my stash buckets and some pretty gold leaves from Flourish by Maggie Holmes.  I painted my background with Worn Lipstick Distress Ink, splattered with Gold Colorshine and then stitched the gold leaves on.

While digging around in my little bucket I found the gorgeous acetate rose from Gather, a Crate Paper tag and the word sticker from Chasing Dreams.  I first layered a floral cut file from Just Nick cut from white cardstock under the photo for softness, and then added my embellishments.  If you want to learn more about layering, be sure to check out my class called Knockout Layers at Big Picture Classes!

At the bottom of the page I layered a piece of crepe paper (hard to see in the photo) and a strip of patterned paper from Flourish to finish off the page!

Days Like This – Crate Paper

I spent the afternoon with Maggie Holmes, Crate Paper, and Vicki Boutin!  Dreamer!!  Wouldn’t that be fun though?  I did spend the afternoon with the gorgeous Flourish collection and my Vicki Boutin Art Crayons and made a pretty scrapbook layout.

I was drawn to the vintage cameras in the collection, and they became my jumping off point.  I thought I would pair the black with yellow and found so many gorgeous yellow/gold florals in the ephemera pack and on the sticker sheet.  I started out with the neutral set of Art Crayons and made my painted background.  While it was drying, I looked for some layering pieces in the collection.

I decided to keep the layout very simple with the addition of the creams in the cards and ephemera pieces.  I love how it all came together!

Planner Decorating with Flourish – Crate Paper

I still get a little giddy each time I get out the Flourish collection by Maggie Holmes & Crate Paper to make something with.  The florals, patterns, ephemera are right up my alley and there isn’t anything I don’t love!   I decided to deck out my Heidi Swapp planner with Flourish.

Awhile ago, while playing with Flourish I made a teeny travellers notebook out of the botanical  book cover ephemera.  It has little page and I added tassels to the spine.  It looks super cute tucked into the pocket! The 6×8 papers from the cardmaker pad fit beautifully in the side pocket and add another spot to decorate and tuck things in!

For the dashboard I simply punched holes in another paper from the 6×8 pad.  No need to trim the paper they fit beautifully!  I layered it under the gold acetate that came with my planner.

I made a library card pocket for the front of the dashboard.  I used a similiar pocket from the Confetti Collection by Maggie Holmes as a guide.  I have all kinds of bits tucked into the pocket and some lovely sentiments stitched on top of it!

On the pocket side of the planner, I lightly tacked everything in place with adhesive.  It is enough to keep it from falling off but not so sticky as to ruin the pockets.  It is fun to change this area out and make it a pretty place to look at!

A close up of the little notebook I made!
