Planner Decorating with Flourish – Crate Paper

I still get a little giddy each time I get out the Flourish collection by Maggie Holmes & Crate Paper to make something with.  The florals, patterns, ephemera are right up my alley and there isn’t anything I don’t love!   I decided to deck out my Heidi Swapp planner with Flourish.

Awhile ago, while playing with Flourish I made a teeny travellers notebook out of the botanical  book cover ephemera.  It has little page and I added tassels to the spine.  It looks super cute tucked into the pocket! The 6×8 papers from the cardmaker pad fit beautifully in the side pocket and add another spot to decorate and tuck things in!

For the dashboard I simply punched holes in another paper from the 6×8 pad.  No need to trim the paper they fit beautifully!  I layered it under the gold acetate that came with my planner.

I made a library card pocket for the front of the dashboard.  I used a similiar pocket from the Confetti Collection by Maggie Holmes as a guide.  I have all kinds of bits tucked into the pocket and some lovely sentiments stitched on top of it!

On the pocket side of the planner, I lightly tacked everything in place with adhesive.  It is enough to keep it from falling off but not so sticky as to ruin the pockets.  It is fun to change this area out and make it a pretty place to look at!

Tea Bag Cards – Crate Paper

Today I am sharing some pretty interactive cards I made using the Maggie Holmes Flourish collection by Crate Paper! I remembered that I had downloaded a tea bag shape from the silhouette store some time ago and thought that would be a fun jumping off point for an interactive card! As I was looking through the Flourish collection I spotted three little tea stickers!! That sealed the deal for me and made it so easy to pick papers and items to go on each card.

I started first with the Chamomile Tea sticker the white wild roses on the Greenhouse paper went beautifully with the chamomile flowers so I cut the tea card from that paper. I decorated the front with white and green ephemera and stickers and made sure to include a little bit of yellow! I chose a Love You sentiment from the sticker sheet.

These little teapots are so sweet! I would love to have a collection of them! I tucked in one of the gold foil leaves for a little eye-catching sparkle behind the chamomile tea jar!

Next up is the English Rose Tea card. I think this one is my favourite! I chose the Emma paper for it’s delicate little blooms and cut the tea card on my silhouette. I added the illustrated black and white ephemera as the base so that the tea jar would show up nicely! The antique fair ticket is cut from the Always paper, I antiqued the edges with a bit of ink.

The “heart you” sentiment seemed to be perfect for the Rose Tea card! You can see that I added a bit of machine stitching on the cards for subtle detail.

Oh those lazy days drinking Summertime Tea! In my dreams!! I love how fresh and pretty this card turned out. I trimmed the black and white card into a tag shape to fit the tea card and decorated it with a pretty yellow floral sticker, another ticket from the Always paper and a fussy cut heart from the Poppy paper I cut the card from.

The detail on these tiny tea canister stickers is so lovely! You can see the stitching under the tea jar (which I popped up on foam dots) and the inked ticket to make it look even more vintage.

These cards were really easy to make, with just a few folds and pretty decorations. To further customize them I cut the matching tea label on the end of the strings out of the same papers and decorated each one with a tiny vintage ticket. You can fill the cards with individually packaged tea bags or add loose tea, they would smell divine!!

I hope you enjoyed these cards! You could easily make the same little tea canister clusters on the front of a traditional card as well!

Spring Nest – Crate Paper

Spring is fleeting here in Alberta and I try to make the most out of the few weeks between snow and hot sun! The birds singing and flitting around are my favourite sights and sounds. We captured this pretty Robin’s nest last spring, complete with tiny robin’s egg blue eggs!

I chose light and airy colours from the Flourish collection for my layout. I love the Aviary paper with the white painted brick and made that my jumping off point! I added sprinkles of paint and then decided to trim the aviary paper and add the pale coral stripe paper behind it, for added colour! Lately I have been loving having my background papers stacked on angles, for a “thrown together” look! Once I decided on where to place my photo I added paper from the card making pad, frames and tickets in behind it.

For a pretty title I used the gorgeous Fleur alpha and mixed it with the gold alpha from the sticker sheet I stitched them onto the painterly tag that reminds me of spring! After fiddling around with letter placement I decided to stack them and it seemed to fit the best that way on the tag!

In the bottom right corner I added another beautiful rose and trimmed it with the gold leaf trim and added a word strip on top. The little bird from the sticker sheet finished it off perfectly. The gold leaf trim is divine! I also tucked a piece up by the photo as a branch for the embroidered bird to perch on!

I couldn’t resist using the embroidered bird patch on this layout. I could have a hundred of these little birds and never get tired of them! The colours of thread in the bird are so rich and silky. She is perched happily guarding the nest!

Unique Titles for Cards – Crate Paper

The Flourish collection has so many possibilities to have a play on words for titles for your cards or layouts. I put the Flourish 6×8 card making pad to work with these cards, so simple to just select a paper and score down the middle and fold and you have an instant card base to decorate!

My first card features the lovely lemons in the Flourish collection, I just had to use the “When Life Gives You Lemons” sentiment! I started with the Lemon Paper for the card base and I fussy cut lemons from the Ponderosa paper and used the lemon branch from the Puffy Stickers. To make the title pop I used both the metallic alphas for loads of bling and stitched through the titles for added interest and texture!

I wanted to make sure I had plenty of dimension on this card. I popped the tag up with cardboard and added foam sticky dots to the fussy cut lemon branch and also the puffy sticker.

For my next card, I chose the pink with green roses paper as it perfectly co-ordinated with the square xo card. I wanted to do a play on the all the xo’s I found in the collection. The gold puffy stickers are gorgeous and I layered them on top of the little square card from the Memorable cut apart paper. I added yet another xoxo at the bottom of the tag from the card stock sticker sheet, the recipient will hopefully feel all the hugs and kisses!! I added a bit of typing to further support the title theme!

The pretty butterfly from the Standouts was the perfect final touch for the card!

It was fun to see what titles I could come up with, whether you use unique items or a unique phrase or words, it really does give your cards that extra special and custom-made touch!

Easter Blessings

Easter is usually a snowy event at our house, hunting for eggs has been done in snowsuits! One year we did luck out and have beautiful weather, and anytime that happens I am sure to be out with my camera getting lovely springtime and Easter dress photos! I had received some pretty pink carnations for that same Easter, and I knew I had to use the gorgeous tag in the Flourish Ephemera Pak on my layout. The bouquet of carnations on the tag is so gorgeous and I used the tag to choose everything else for the layout!

I started out by adhering some white cardstock to the Perennial paper and then tearing the cardstock to show some of the darling posies beneath. I splattered a few colors of paint and then layered washi tape strips and papers to make a base for the photos. I stitched a few lines across the base for some added texture.

I really wanted to the bunny oval to stand out between the pictures, so I layered a vellum oval frame with rose gold foil underneath the bunny then continued to add the layers of florals, fussy cut sprigs from the Anne paper and leaves. A puffy rose sticker on the corner of the bunny frame ties the pinks from my photo and the flowers on my daughter’s dress into the center cluster.

I tucked the carnation bouquet tag behind my second photo and layered a few word strips and my daughters initial on to the picture.

Fussy cutting the black leaf sprigs from the Anne paper took some time but it was well worth it for the pretty botanical feel they give to the page, I love the contrast they provide with the layers of florals! If you like fussy cutting I recommend cutting yourself a few sprigs for layers!

Remember – Crate Paper Flourish

I am pretty sure I could cover half my house in the Flourish Always wood grain paper!  The tone of the wood color is so warm and perfect!  I decided to go for it and use the paper for my background.  I splattered a bit of colorshine onto the background to break the wood up a bit.  I backed a cut file with the watercolor striped paper from the 6×6 pad to add a bit of the green that shows in the butterflies.  The green is also on the paint by number strip tucked behind the photo!

To keep the page from looking too dark and heavy I thought that fussy cutting butterflies from the Charming paper would be the perfect idea.  I wanted them to float up the page so I cut out quite a few and stayed to the pinks and peachy butterflies.   I also decided to layer the pink and yellow butterflies with a hand cut white butterfly and the matching butterfly fussy cut from the 6×6 paper pad.

To balance the white die cut on the side of the photo I added one of the cut apart cards from the Memorable paper.  I had two of these cards so I fussy cut the camera and popped it up on foam for added dimension.  One of the sweet gold puffy stickers fit perfectly in the flashbulb spot!

I am very happy that I went out of my comfort zone and used the wood grain paper.  The contrast really makes the butterflies pop off the page and gives a crispness to the white while still remaining a very warm and pretty layout!  I encourage you to bust out a paper you’ve been “collecting” or use your favorite paper from a collection!

Floral Birthday

I was inspired by the vintage cameras in the Maggie Holmes Flourish collection for the jumping off point for birthday decor! I have a small collection of black vintage cameras and thought the idea of Smile It’s Your Birthday would be a great theme for special someone who loves vintage, florals and photography! I started out with the gold letters as the centre of the display. I tacked them to a big black frame I use for special occasions or as a board to pin things too.

I wanted bold punches of colour and pattern so I made large and medium rosettes from the Flourish papers. Rosettes are fairly simple to make, for the large rosette you need 2 sheets of the same 12×12 pattern paper, a medium rosette uses 1 12×12 sheet.

I made 2 large rosettes, 2 medium and 1 small that I turned into a prize ribbon. The prize ribbon rosette uses 4 x 2” strips.

I love the dimension the rosettes create, plus it is a great way to be able to see the beautiful patterns in the Maggie Holmes Flourish collection!

For some smaller details I added a paper from the 6×8 paper pad to a gold frame. I then embellished on top of the glass with a tag, chipboard piece and the gorgeous wood veneer frame.

I used the Flourish Washi Tape to add a few of the die cuts on the “pin” board.

I love this little grouping of one of the medium rosettes with the swan card and camera!

I am really happy with the way my idea came together! It feels special, without being a traditional birthday theme and the florals bring warmth and life, especially if you are celebrating a winter birthday like I am!
