Shaker Heart – Hip Kit Club

My assignment this week was to add a shaker pocket onto a layout!  So many cute possibilities with the June 2018 Hip Kits!  I decided to make a simple heart shaker and cut a heart outline and a full heart on my silhouette.  I added a piece of acetate to the heart outline back and think strips of foam to raise it up.  I added sequins inside the heart outline back and then glued the full heart to that!  Instant shaker pocket!

Next I added paints from the June 2018 Color kit to a white background.  I love how shimmery the pale pink and peach are!

I adore the Illustrated Faith bird paper and decided to feature it with a grid design beneath my shaker and photo.  A few Pinkfresh Studio embellishments finished off the page!

Flamingo Envy

Paige offered a super cute Flamingo Pool Floatie cut file for free in her Happy Scrappy Group and I just had to use it!  The group is free to join and has loads of inspiration for using Paige Evans cut files and collections!

I had to make my flamingo pink and went straight for Oh My Heart!  I backed the flamingo in two of the pink papers and left the middle ring open for my journal card since I do not have a flamingo floatie!  I added lots of pink flowers and attached the sunglasses to my journal card to make it easy to pull it in and out.

I didn’t want the flamingo to be stranded so I painted her a pool and some splashes!!  It was so fun to make this page!

Family Tree – Crate Paper

Hello!  Thank you for stopping by the blog today!  I have a family tree layout to share using the Maggie Holmes Flourish collection by Crate Paper.  I had so many ideas whirling around in my head as to how to approach the layout.  I started by looking through photos and realized I don’t have photos readily available of extended family.  I thought it would be fun to focus on my daughter, myself and my parents for this layout.

I started out with a tree cut file that I cut from white cardstock.  I fiddled around with the cutout tree for quite awhile until it hit me to try the background with the tree cut out of it.  I slipped a piece of teal green patterned paper behind the cutout and loved it!

From that point, I chose my photos and then decided on an arrangement.  I added the photo of Hannah at the bottom left, a photo of her and I on the right and a photo of myself and my mom and dad on the top right.  I decided to use pinks and yellows to embellish the photos and got out the floral die cut pack!  I LOVE the flowers that Maggie Holmes includes in her collections.  My instinct is to hoard them, but on the layout, they went!  I added some washi tape at the bottom of the layout to “ground” the tree and popped on the cute little partridge embossed puffy sticker.

At the top of the tree, I added a fussy cut dragonfly from the Charming paper and a for a little joke I added the squirrel holding the little acorn! (Nuts don’t fall far from the tree) Haha!  I tucked in some of the gorgeous gold puffy sticker leaves and finished off with some word strips from the cardstock sticker pack.

I hope you are inspired to create a family tree for your family!  I want to do another layout with old-time family photos!

Bright Idea – Pinkfresh Studio

This summer my daughter is taking Social Studies in summer school to get a headstart on Grade 10 (still can’t believe she is old enough for Grade 10!) By the third week both of us were tired of social every day and sort of hit the wall, the photo shows her studying during her snack break! The lovely lemons in Simple & Sweet by Pinkfresh Studio seemed super fitting for a make lemonade out of lemons type layout!

I started out the layout with a white background and used large alpha stamps for the background.  I then began the hunt for all the lemons I could find in the collection, and I found a lot!  The lemons are in the papers, die cuts, puffy stickers and chipboard.  I fussy cut the lemons from the paper to layer on my page mixed in with the others I found.

I used a few of the stamps from the Let Your Heart Decide stamp set to jazz up the background even more.  I stamped with yellow and black ink.  Some of the stamps are stamped on cardstock and fussy cut for more dimension.

I finished off the page with a cute title.  I was originally just going to use the “bright” puffy sticker on it’s on and then it occurred to me I could make a longer title using it with the black alpha stickers!  A few lemon color enamel dots added the perfect finishing touch to all the lemon layers!

Heart Eyes – Crate Paper

I traveled to Palm Desert, CA in April to visit my girlfriend.  I took a lot of photos of her gorgeous desert garden.  I love cacti and succulents so it was right up my alley.   It is funny to me how many of my travel photos end up being of plants, flowers, trees, and sunsets!  I suppose I take many plant photos at home too; I just love plant photos!!  I chose one of the photos of a pretty cactus to make a layout about.  The Wild Heart collection by Crate Paper is SO perfect for these types of photos!

I decided to string tags on some white bakers twine, I have made similarly designed layouts, but I just love the look!  Once I had made my tag decisions I used my Vicki Boutin Art Crayons and puddled some watercolor behind where each tag would go.  I used a custom mix of pinks and yellow and teal.  Once the puddles had dried, I went back in and added tiny splatter drops in the same colors.

I kept the embellishments on the tags pretty simple.  They are so beautifully designed they made a big impact just as they were!  A few stickers, some gold hearts, a paperclip and the alpha, finished the layout off perfectly!

Sweet Time – Hip Kit Club

I am happy to be sharing a layout I made for Mixed Media Monday at the Hip Kit Club!! My assignment was to use the June 2018 color kit, stitching and cut files so off I went!

I cut one of the background files by Kim Watson (June) and used it as a stencil to mist the background with the pretty blue Shimmerz spray. I then added both other Shimmerz paints for loads of sparkle and splatters!

I layered and layered all the pretty papers and embellishments from our Pinkfresh Studio goodies in the June kits! I love how my page turned out!! You might want to consider using a cut file as a stencil, it creates a unique look to your background!!

Tap Dreams

I was up at 4:30 this morning, definitely not planned but I thought I might as well make the most of it and enjoy some quiet scrap time!  My days have been busy helping Hannah with her summer school so it was nice to just sit and enjoy a coffee and get creative!

I hauled out my stash buckets and some pretty gold leaves from Flourish by Maggie Holmes.  I painted my background with Worn Lipstick Distress Ink, splattered with Gold Colorshine and then stitched the gold leaves on.

While digging around in my little bucket I found the gorgeous acetate rose from Gather, a Crate Paper tag and the word sticker from Chasing Dreams.  I first layered a floral cut file from Just Nick cut from white cardstock under the photo for softness, and then added my embellishments.  If you want to learn more about layering, be sure to check out my class called Knockout Layers at Big Picture Classes!

At the bottom of the page I layered a piece of crepe paper (hard to see in the photo) and a strip of patterned paper from Flourish to finish off the page!

Today – Paige Evans + Silhouette

I chose Heart Group (Design ID #260894) from Paige’s Silhouette store.  I knew I wanted to do some mixed media on my page and thought about how I could tweak the cut file to get the look I wanted!

I first cut just the whole outline from white cardstock by ungrouping the design and deleting the hearts.  I then used spray mists to “fill in” the heart.  I used four different colors, and the cut file made a great stencil!  While the ink was drying, I went back to the cut file, and this time I deleted the outside cut line of the hearts and just kept the heart’s themselves.  I lined them all up in a grid, grouped them and then duplicated all the hearts and reduced the size.  I painted the hearts with a deep navy paint and painted the smaller hearts with white paint.  I then ran a line of stitching through both hearts and glued them onto my page!

Now comes the embellishing!!  I had chosen the ink sprays to coordinate with Pick Me Up by Paige Evans and Pink Paislee, so it was just a matter of choosing which die cuts looked great with my photo.  I chose a flower cluster, some word tabs and the butterflies from the sticker sheet.  I finished it off with the pretty “today” chipboard in glimmery gold foil!

I LOVE how my page turned out.  Using Paige’s cut files as stencils is a great way to get multiple uses out of them!

Flower Walk – Pinkfresh Studio

When I was making my layout for the July Pinkfresh Studio challenge I had painted lots of circles with the paints that I had mixed up.  I didn’t use them at the time and later wondered what I could do with them!  I decided to stitch around the edges with black thread (stitching in a circle is not my strong point haha) and then stacked them up to make flowers.

I used hot glued the circles together making a bit of a puddle of glue to add dimension, I then popped a single enamel dot in the center.  For the stems I drew stripes on a white piece of cardstock with a sharpie and then cut it into strips.

For my background I simply splattered black watercolor paint all over the background.  I added a cluster of embellishments at the bottom of the page beside the photo.  The embellishments and alpha are all from The Mix #2 by Pinkfresh Studio.

Keep Shining – Hip Kit Club

YAY for Hip Kit Club sketch day! I had such fun playing with the sketch this week and the June 2018 Hip Kits! I was intent on using more papers this month and this sketch really leaned toward that goal. I cut strips of papers and cut scallops with my silhouette. The Pinkfresh Studio cut apart paper made the layout for me! I tucked in coordinating colors and embellished with Pinkfresh Studio Sweet and Simple enamel circles and chipboard. Be sure to check out the sketch this week, it’s definitely got a lot of possibilities!!

This little vase of wildflowers is one of my favorite pieces!!  I also snipped the layered sentiment off of one of the frames and added it to my photo.

Loads of lovely layers!!
